I remember watching Larry the Cable Guy do some stand-up a few years ago and make a joke about the "walking farts." Just the image it created in my head was hilarious, but I have never witnessed it first-hand... until now. Our dogs were playing in the next room, when I called them over to me. As the little one came jogging over to me, I heard a "Pfft-Pfft" with every step. Then as he got closer, the smell caught up with him. Yep, he had the walking farts... I laughed pretty hard. I couldn't imagine not having our dogs. I grew up always having pets in the house, so when I went off to college, petless, I was pretty lonely. Nothing can replace the bond you form with your pets. My husband grew up just the opposite... I think he said they had a fish at some point (Not the same!!). So, I had been bugging him about getting a dog for a long time, but he wouldn't budge. The response was always something to the effect of "when we get our own place", "when we have more money", "after we buy a new house", "when we can do a better job of picking up around the house", etc. Little did he know the real answer to that was "when you need one more than ever."
I had been fighting an unknown illness (doctors couldn't diagnose me) for about 5 months when doctors finally determined I had Crohn's disease. By that time it had gotten really bad so I left my job to stay home and recover. My mom stayed with me for as long as she could (Thank you, Mom :) I love you), but eventually she had to go home. Then, I felt very alone... until our little man showed up in the driveway during a lightning storm. He was so adorable and afraid, I couldn't turn him away. The plan was to only keep him for a couple of weeks as we tried to locate the owners before turning him into a shelter... well that was "his plan" at least. I was already attached and knew that if the owners were not found, our new friend already had a new home with me. He was exactly what I needed to get me through some tough times in life.
After a month or so, my husband grew to love him too and now 2 years later, another (very BIG) boy has joined the troop. I'll tell you a little bit about him later... whew, do I have stories to tell about him! Even if you have never had a pet, trust me as I say they are sooooo worth it. Even when they drive you nuts, you can't help but love them to death.

Old Town Spring
We went to Old Town Spring for the first time last weekend and absolutely loved it! Even though we only went to a handful of shops (we managed to go on the hottest day yet this summer), my favorite so far is The Painted Pig. They sell these amazing candles that are larger than a softball and smell so good you just want to eat the wax. They sell for $25 each (yikes, right?), but it was worth every penny. I have the lemon custard scented one out right now and here's a hint... even though they burn for a long time, I only burn mine for about 15-20 minutes, then blow it out, and the house smells great all day. I was also stoked to find a beautiful headboard for my guest room there and it was reasonably priced!! Usually when you find furniture in these kinds of shops, the price tag makes your heart pause for a few dollar signs, but this store is not out for your pocket book. The owners are really sweet and down to earth, as are most of the shop owners we ran into.
When you go out there, make sure to stop and eat at Wunsche Bros. Cafe (One-She). We ordered the fried zucchini as a starter and it was the BEST I have ever had! They bring out a basket-full!! It isn't listed on the menu, but I was told you can also request fried pickles. I'll have to try them next time we go.
That's all for my first entry... until next time.
